Eating, shopping and metal bar hopping makes everyone tired sooner or later. Remember to book a nice accommodation before your arrival in Helsinki to make sure, you won't be left outside on the street.
Hoping to stay like a rock star? Want to find the cheapest option possible? The city offers a large variety of places to choose from, something for every pocket and style - this guide tells about few, which might be worth considering.
Hotel Katajanokka's building originally served as a county prison and pre-detention centre from ealy 19th century until 2002. After second World War, it accommodated some well known convicts from war-responsibility trials. Some of the places in the building are rumoured to be haunted by old prisoners, such as Hella Wuolijoki, Estonian-born writer.
The building re-opened as a hotel in 2007 after renovations, but lot of the old prison elements were kept - which give quite an creepy touch to the place, and definitely an unique accommodation experience. It now serves a pleasant escape from ordinary as a modern, high quality hotel.

Omenahotelli hotel chain is known for their self-service - after booking a room, you will get a code which is used as a "key" to your room as no separate check-in is required. It's not very personal, but at least the prices are reasonable, sheets clean and hotel is located conveniently close to various watering holes.
Omenahotelli has two hotels in the city center area, another one being at Lönnrotinkatu. Watch out though, these places tend to get a little crowded during festival weekends in summer, so book early enough.
